One to Buy: Crystal White 30,000km 1994 Nissan R32 Skyline GT-R V-spec II
Between 1987 and 1989, Ford’s Sierra Cosworth and the BMW E30 M3 had proven themselves the quickest Group A Touring Cars around. However, when the Nissan R32 Skyline GT-R arrived on the scene for 1990, the Japanese machine dubbed “Godzilla” cleaned up in every major championship it contested.
Rather fortunately for Ford and BMW, Nissan generally limited its outings with the GT-R to the Oceanic region where it vanquished the opposition in the Japanese and Australian Touring Car Championships. However, on one of its rare forays to Europe, a visit to the 1991 Spa 24 Hours, the Zexel-backed Nismo team demonstrated just how technically superior the GT-R was with an absolutely dominant victory.
This competition prowess along with the GT-R’s good looks, state-of-art tech and almost infinitely tuneable nature meant Nissan massively exceeded the 5000 car Group A production requiremment by a considerable margin.
By the time the R32 GT-R was discontinued in 1994 a little under 44,000 had been completed and, for many collectors, the most desirable of these was the V-Sped II introduced in February 1994.
As per the original V or Victory-spec (which was introduced to celebrate Nissan’s competition success), the V-spec II combined bigger brake discs (324mm front and 300mm rear) along with a bigger brake master cylinder, uprated Brembo calipers and 17-inch BBS wheels. Uniquely, this latest version added a retuned ATTESA E-TS permanent four-wheel drive system and wider tyres (245/45 R17 instead of 225/45 R17).
