One to Buy: 2 owner Nissan-restored 73,000 mile 1973 Datsun 240Z

After Toyota’s massive balls up with the 2000 GT which proved an expensive flop, Nissan showed the other Japanese manufacturers how to create a globally successful sports car with the Fairlady Z / 240Z.
Handsome looks, spirited performance, excellent build quality and superb handling at a price that crushed demand for some of its European counterparts ensured Nissan shifted vast quantities of the new machine – demand was such that in some markets, used cars were selling at above retail when even a couple of years old.
Unfortunately, when these cars were worth little more than beer money, many were scrapped or repeatedly bodged to keep them on the road, especially in the UK where the climate was often not conducive to the survival of steel bodyshells.
This make finding a truly superb right-hand drive UK market 240Z difficult, but undoubtedly the best example we’ve seen in recent years is currently residing at the 4 Star Classics showroom in Guildford, Surrey.
Supplied to its first custodian via Fulton Motors Ltd. in London during May 1973, this stunning Metallic Blue 240Z is importantly accompanied by its rarely seen original service book.
More recently, the two owner car has been the subject of a comprehensive bare metal restoration and complete mechanical rebuild by Nissan themselves. Having covered minimal mileage since completion, it remains in exceptional condition throughout.
In addition to gorgeous matt black 15-inch Rota wheels, other desirable enhancements include an upgraded cylinder head, triple Weber carburettors, a bespoke stainless steel exhaust system and BC Racing BR coilover suspension.
Unrepeatable.
