Owing to the vast cost associated with small production runs of special bodied motor cars, coachbuilders have usually decided to focus on super high end products from the most prestigious European manufacturers in order to ensure sufficient customers for their creations.

However, owing to the explosion of interest in both classic and modern Japanese performance cars over the last two decades, a new market has emerged for wickedly expensive custom creations using vehicles from the Land of the Rising Sun.

Just such a collaboration was announced in June 2018 when Italdesign teamed up with Nissan to produce a coachbuilt R35 GT-R in celebration of the 50th anniversary since the PGC-10’s debut in 1968 which was also the same year that Giorgetto Giugiaro established his renowned styling house.

Just 19 examples of the resultant GTR-50 were built by Italdesign, one of which is currently on the market with the Legendary Motorcar Company in Halton Hills, Ontario.

Configured in Liquid Silver Metallic with Nismo red accents and the optional hydraulic rear spoiler, this particular example is number 11 of the 19 unit run and remains in brand new condition having covered only delivery mileage.

In addition to the remarkable Italdesign body and interior, these GT-R50s came with an array of mechanical enhancements, perhaps the most notable of which was a comprehensively uprated 710bhp twin turbo V6 hand-built by Nismo. Such an intoxicating mix of elements will surely mean these unusual machines will come to be regarded among the most sought after Japanese super sports cars of their era.

LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 2021 Nissan GT-R50

The Nissan GT-R 50 is the result of the collaboration with the Japanese car manufacturer and Italdesign (a small Italian coachbuilder) with the latest GT-R NISMO and reinterprets it with a European-style sensibility, combining Japanese performance and Italian craftsmanship.

After a strong global tour with the GT-R50 prototype making appearances at Goodwood and Spa-Francorchamps, Nissan made the decision to produce a very limited run available only to a small batch of VIP customers.

The all-new body was completely hand-sculpted by the artisans at Italdesign, taking a lot of cues from Nissan’s heritage models.

Starting at the front, the Nissan GT-R50 features a distinct golden inner element that stretches across almost the full width of the vehicle. The hood has a more pronounced power bulge, and the thin LED headlights stretch from the wheel arch to the lip above the outer cooling intakes.

Dominating the side view, the distinctive roofline has been lowered by 54 millimeters and features a lower center section, while the slightly raised outer portions give the roof profile a muscular look.

The GT-R’s twin round taillights draw inspiration from previous models such as the highly regarded R34 GTR. A large, adjustable rear wing, mounted with two uprights, completes the overall look.

Inside, the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign reflects its modern, high-performance pedigree. Two different carbon fiber finishes are extensively used across the center console, instrument panel and door linings, along with black Alcantara and fine black Italian leather on the seats. Gold accents echo the exterior treatment across the instrument panel, doors and the futuristic race car-inspired switchgear.

The bespoke steering wheel’s central hub and spokes are made of carbon fiber, while the rim features a flat bottom and matching Alcantara trim.

Beneath the coach bodywork, the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign is all business. Using experience gained on Nissan’s GT3 racing experience, the NISMO organization enhanced the hand-assembled 3.8-liter V6 VR38DETT engine to produce an estimated 710hp and 585 ft.lbs of torque. Changes to the power plant include optimized twin high-flow, large-diameter GT3 competition-spec turbochargers and larger intercoolers; heavy-duty crankshaft, pistons, connecting rods and bearings; high-flow piston oil jets; revised camshaft profiles; higher-flow fuel injectors; and optimized ignition, intake and exhaust systems.

A reinforced dual-clutch sequential six-speed rear transaxle and stronger differentials and drive shafts direct the power to the wheels.

A revised suspension has been developed, featuring the BILSTEIN DampTronic® I continuously adjustable damping system.

For braking, the Brembo six-piston front and four-piston rear brakes feature bright red, clearly visible calipers. Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, sized 255/35 R21 in the front and 285/30 R21 in the rear, add a level of grip needed to harness the engine’s power.

The example offered here for sale was specially ordered in Liquid Silver metallic (€25,000 option) complemented by Nismo Red accents. Also, the original owner chose the optional Rear Hydraulic Wing (€35,000) which adds active aero during acceleration and braking.

This GT-R50 is still brand new having never been driven with only delivery mileage.

The GT-R50 is one of the most special modern coach-built sports cars, drawing inspiration from the best design elements from previous models. This represents a very rare and unique opportunity to add the ultimate and most collectible GTR to your collection.
