One to Buy: ex-Emir of Kuwait 1 of 6 in Rosso Scuro 1994 Bugatti EB110 GT

Because Italian entrepreneur Romano Artioli had to revive Bugatti from scratch and simultaneously elected to create a state-of-art new car using bespoke parts throughout, the EB110 project must rank among the most ambitious in automotive history.

When Artioli purchased the Bugatti naming rights back in 1987, the market for high end exotics was on a steep upward trajectory and it seemed likely that buyers would be lining up to acquire what was set to be the hottest machine for many a year.

However, by the time the EB110 was ready for production, economic conditions had turned sour and customers were difficult to find for what became the most expensive new car available.

As a consequence, less than 100 examples of the EB110 were constructed in GT trim, perhaps the finest example of which to exist is currently on the market with Art & Revs in Howald, Luxembourg.

One of six EB110 GTs originally configured in handsome Rosso Scuro paint, chassis 071 was ordered to Swiss specification through Bugatti’s Monaco distributor, Monte Carlo Royal Motors.

In 2023 the car was purchased by Art & Revs from the estate of the Kuwaiti Emir having not turned a wheel in 17 years. Despite only showing 7000km, chassis 071 was clearly in need of a refresh to bring it back to optimal condition so the decision was made to carry out an exacting restoration, the results of which speak for themselves.
