One to Buy: mono Italian Red 2007 Bugatti 16.4 Veyron
/ Ben Tyer
In order to topple the McLaren F1 from its perch as the fastest production car ever openly offered to the public, Bugatti took a quite different approach.
Rather than a philosophy that revolved around simple, light weight analogue engineering, Bugatti created an incredibly complex technological tour de force that broke new ground in practically every aspect of its design. The result was an all-wheel drive carbon-tubbed machine with a remarkable eight-litre W16 quad turbocharged 987bhp engine capable of 253mph and 0-186mph time of just 16.7 seconds.
Ultimately, Bugatti went on to build 252 copies of the original fixed head 16.4 Veyron, many of which were unfortunately completed in rather unflattering colour schemes. However, set to go under the hammer at Bonhams’ Miami sale on May 3rd is one of the most handsome Veyrons we’ve come across in recent years: chassis VF9SA25C78M795150.
One of the 76 Veyrons manufactured to US specification, chassis ‘150’ was configured by its first owner in stunning monotone Italian Red with Gloss Black accents over a matching Red and Black interior trimmed primarily in alcantara.
Completed during November 2007 and delivered to its first owner near San Diego the following month, chassis ‘150’ has spent most of its life between California, Florida and Michigan, racking up a little over 12,600 miles.
Today, the car rides on forged Ryft gloss black wheels and is fitted with a Ryft titanium exhaust system that weighs 15kg less than the standard Bugatti unit. Chassis ‘150’ has also been the recipient of a full paint protection film by Tier 1 Autohaus in Las Vegas and is accompanied by its original book pack.
