One to Buy: 1 of 1 in Exposed Carbonfibre 2001 Bugatti EB110 SS (Dauber EB110 S)

Owing to poor trading conditions that led to massively reduced demand for high end motor cars, the expensively revived Bugatti company filed for bankruptcy in 1995.

However, that wasn’t quite the end of the story for the state-of-art EB110 as, in 1997, much of Bugatti’s final stock of partially completed cars and parts was acquired by Jochen Dauer who, from 1999, re-started production of an improved iteration. In total, ten Dauer EB110s were built up in a variety of GT and SS specifications, four of which had been partially completed by Bugatti while the remaining six were based on naked tubs.

On August 15th, one of these rarely seen Dauer EB110s will be going under the hammer at Mecum’s Monterey auction: chassis ZA9AV01E0NCD39151.

Uniquely, chassis ‘39151’ was the only car built with an exposed carbonfibre body. For its cockpit, Caramel leather was used. Finished in 2001 (but currently registered as a 1998 example) following completion the car was exhibited alongside chassis 39153 at the Hotel Metropole Monte Carlo during the 2001 Monaco Grand Prix.

After its appearance in Monte Carlo, Jochen Dauer drove chassis 39151 during the Paris to Monaco Supercar Rally which took place in October 2001. While still in Dauer ownership, the uniquely appointed EB110 was subsequently road tested for May 2002’s Sports Car International magazine.

By 2005, chassis 39151 had been acquired by Graham Schultz of Modena Cars in the UK and featured in the number 078 issue of Evo magazine. Several years later, the car joined the collection of British-domiciled Hong Kong real estate magnate, Sam Li.

Today, this one-of-one Dauer heads to auction with a little over 6000 miles on the odometer.
