One to Buy: 500 mile 2025 Bugatti Mistral "The Black Diamond"

To justify its position as builder of the world’s most extravagantly engineered road cars, Bugatti knew it had to have a suitably elaborate engine. What the firm came up with was a true technical tour de force: an eight-litre W16 constructed almost entirely from exotic alloys and fitted with four turbochargers.

In addition to mainstream models like the Veyron and Chiron (plus the occasional one-off commission), the W16 was used to power Bugatti’s limited run specials like the Divo, Centodieci, Bolide and this car, the Mistral.

Unveiled at The Quail Motorsports Gathering in Monterey during August 2022, the Mistral was produced in a limited run of 99 units between 2024 and 2025, all of which were pre-sold at a pre-tax price of €5m. Significantly, the Mistral was the last Bugatti to use that epic W16 engine before the company switched to an 8.3-litre normally aspirated V16 hybrid as debuted in the Tourbillon.

With such a limited production run and spectacular specification, every Mistral is undoubtedly special, but heading to auction at Mecum’s Kissimmee sale in Florida on January 16th is something truly out of the ordinary.

Nicknamed "Le Diamant Noir" ("The Black Diamond") and equipped with a matching factory dedication plaque, chassis VF9SM3V32SM795044 was the only Mistral finished in full exposed Black Carbonfibre with tri-tone Blanc accents and Nocturne exterior trim.

Some of the exterior details include a French Tricolore on each rocker panel, an exposed carbonfibre engine cover trimmed in Matt Blanc with a Nocturne engine script, Blanc engine intake shrouds and a Black-coated exhaust deflector. The wheels were finished in a combination of Nocturne and Gun Powder with Blanc “EB” centre caps. The brake calipers were painted Black to match.

Inside, chassis ‘044’ was ordered with Beluga Black leather plus the optional Carbon Plus Package which saw exposed carbonfibre applied across the dash, centre console, door panels, rear shelf, steering wheel, door sills and the Comfort seat shells. Contrasting Black and Ivoire stitching was used throughout the cabin along with Ivoire accents for the centre console, climate controls, Mistral logo and interior trim. The glass gear selector featured Bugatti's iconic Rembrandt Dancing Elephant suspended within crystal and the Dancing Elephant headrest embroidery was finished in Ivoire.

Chassis ‘044’ heads to auction with a little over 500 miles on the odometer and is accompanied by its original book pack and accessories along with a luggage set upholstered in Beluga Black leather with Ivoire stitching and embroidery.
