One to Buy: 38,000 mile Nogaro Blue 1995 Audi B4 RS2 Avant

As one of the most iconic high performance cars of the 20th century, Audi’s all-wheel drive, WRC-winning Quattro was practically impossible to replace. Moreover, with the automotive landscape having changed considerably by the early 1990s, a like-for-like successor would inevitably have fallen short. Perhaps in realisation of this, Audi chose a different path for its new line of RS-badged ultra high performance models.

Eschewing the temptation to create another two-door Coupe, Audi’s first RS was based around its entry level 80 and offered exclusively as a five-door Station Wagon.

Produced in collaboration with Porsche, the RS2 Avant was riddled with hot parts. Specially prepared bodyshells got stiffer, lower suspension, an uprated brake system and Porsche Cup wheels shod with trick Dunlop tyres. Under the hood, Porsche fitted a suitably enhanced big turbo inline five cylinder engine that pumped out 315bhp at 6500rpm and 302lb-ft at 3000rpm. This was fed to the tarmac through a custom six-speed manual gearbox and torque-sensitive permanent four-wheel drive system.

Cosmetically, the RS2 got a number of subtle but sporty tweaks, as did the cockpit which most notably came with new figure-hugging Recaro seats.

Of the just under 3000 RS2s built between 1994 and 1995, just 180 were right-hand drive, a surprisingly low figure considering that the UK was Audi’s biggest export market for the original Quattro.

On November 14th, one of the best of these right-hand drive RS2s will be going under the hammer during Iconic Auctioneers’ sale at the NEC in Birmingham.

Originally supplied by Audi agent Scotts on Pavillion Road in Chelsea, chassis 8CSZ000809 was ordered in the trademark RS2 colour scheme of Nogaro Blue with two-tone upholstery in Anthracite leather and Nogaro Blue alcantara. Registered to its first owner on January 18th 1995, the four owner car is accompanied by an extensive history file that documents 20 stamped services since its pre-delivery inspection, the most recent of which was carried out on September 11th 2026 at 38,810 miles.
