One to Buy: ex-Tom Kristensen Abt Sportsline 2008 Audi A4 R14 DTM
/ Ben Tyer
As had been the case since 2006, the 2008 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) was a straight contest between Audi and Mercedes-Benz.
Mercedes supplied the latest ‘08-spec. C-class to the quasi works HWA Team and previous year examples to Persson Motorsport and Mucke Motorsport. Meanwhile, the Audi Sport-backed Abt Sportsline squad ran ‘08-spec A4s and were supported by Team Phoenix and Team Rosberg (both of whom ran ‘07 machinery) along with Futurecom TME (with ‘06 variants).
During the course of the eleven race season, the Abt-run Audis won six races to Mercedes’ five and Abt’s Mattias Ekstrom pipped HWA’s Paul di Resta to the Drivers’ title by 75 points to 71.
Currently residing at the Fiskens showroom in London is a veteran of that 2008 season: the Abt Sportsline Audi A4 DTM R14 chassis 504.
For much of 2008, chassis 504 was allocated to seven-time Le Mans-winner Tom Kristensen who drove it to a trio of third place finishes (at the Hockenheimring, Mugello and Zandvoort). Kristensen and 504 also started from pole on two occasions (at the Nurburgring and Le Mans) and set a brace of fastest laps (at Zandvoort and Barcelona).
Between 2009 and 2011, chassis 504 was campaigned by Team Rosberg with further success.
Offered fresh from a service by Progressive Motorsport, this sensational ex-works Audi with its normally aspirated 460bhp V8 and sequential six-speed gearbox represents a rare opportunity to purchase a front-running DTM car.
