History of chassis 141

Chassis 141 was one of two Porsche 962s raced by Jochen Dauer in 1989 (the other having been chassis 133).

141 joined Dauer’s stable in the middle of the year at which point it became the team’s primary race car.

For its first five races, chassis 141 appeared in multicoloured Tic Tac livery. Dauer used the car in a mixture of Porsche Supercup, Interserie and World Sportscar Championship events. Its best result wearing Tic Tac trim came in the Interserie race at Most on August 13th where Jochen Dauer finished second.

Dauer then placed second at the Nurburgring Supercup race on September 24th; for this outing, chassis 141 ran a one-off white and green livery to reflect backing from composite manufacturer, Hexcel.

The car reverted to its familiar Tic Tac colour scheme for what would be its last competitive appearance: the 1989 World Sportscar Championship finale at the circuit Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City set for October 29th.

Cash-strapped Dauer teamed up with local pay driver Juan Carlos Bolanos for the event, but they would not make the grid.

Unfortunately, during practice, Bolanos went off the road at the fast left hander behind the pits. The crash caused significant damage to the front and rear of the car and could not be repaired locally. Bolanos suffered torn knee ligaments in the accident but was otherwise unharmed.

Chassis 141 did not race again.

Dauer needed a replacement car for 1990 and was able to purchase an experimental tub from Porsche: chassis 962.8.001. For carnet reasons (and to avoid tax), Dauer re-numbered 962.8.001 as 141 and contested several races with it in 1990.

As for the real chassis 141, it was later repaired and rebuilt as one of Dauer’s famed 962 LMs.

The car was one of five sold to the Sultan of Brunei. Painted metallic green, once landed in Brunei, it was road registered BQ 7162.

141 remains in Brunei along with the rest of the Sultan’s fleet of Dauer 962 LMs.
