One to Buy: The Only Porsche 911 3.8 Carrera S Cabriolet (993) Ever Built

Although Porsche had offered open top versions of its two prior 911 variants with all the Turbo equipment bar a forced induction engine, that policy was abandoned on the 993 which was only officially built in wide-bodied non-turbo Carrera trim as a Coupe.
Unofficially, however, one VIP customer was able to convince Porsche to build a 993 in Cabriolet trim with Turbo equipment and an atmo engine. Completed on chassis WP0ZZZ99ZWS330081, that uniquely configured car is currently residing at the Canepa showroom in Scotts Valley, California.
Constructed in 1998 (the last year of production for the 993 and the only year the rear-drive Carrera S was produced), chassis ‘330081’ was ordered via Porsche Zentrum Niederrhein on October 28th 1997. Following completion at Porsche’s Exclusive Department in Zuffenhausen, the car was delivered to its first owner in May 1998.
In addition to Guards Red paint, Black leather upholstery, Flamenco Red carpet and a Black soft top, chassis ‘330081’ was optioned with heated electric Sports seats, body coloured seat backs, a Becker Porsche CR-21 audio system, air-conditioning, pleated leather seats, a leather dash and leather door panels.
Retained by the original owner until 2015, in 2021 the car was put through Porsche’s Classic Technical Certificate programme which yielded a Certificate of Authenticity that confirms a matching numbers engine and transmission along with the car’s status as a factory commission that was never officially produced in such a specification.
Having covered a little over 10,000 miles, chassis ‘330081’ is accompanied by a complete service history along with the original book pack and tool kit, Porsche Classic documentation and several magazines in which the car has been featured.
