One to Buy: 8500 mile 1 of 40 in Satin Black Metallic 1989 Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera Cabriolet 25th Anniversary Special Edition

The 1989 model year was the last for Porsche’s iconic 3.2-litre Carrera before only 964-based models were offered. As usual, customers could order their new car as a Coupe, Targa or Cabriolet in either standard narrow-bodied trim or with all the wide-bodied equipment from the Turbo minus the forced induction engine.

In addition, Porsche added a limited run Speedster to the range and every iteration of the 3.2-litre 911 could be extensively personalised with conventional optional extras and bespoke customisation via the Exclusive department. Some of those rarely seen Exclusive enhancements were also bundled in to a US market special edition created to celebrate a quarter of a century of 911 production.

The 25th Anniversary Special Edition comprised a limited run of 500 cars split between 300 Coupes and 200 Cabriolets. Two exterior colours were offered: Silver Metallic or Satin Black Metallic, both of which came with body coloured wheel centres. Of the 300 Coupes, 240 were Silver Metallic and 60 were Satin Black Metallic. The 200 Cabriolets were split between 160 Silver Metallic cars and 40 in Satin Black Metallic.

Regardless of exterior colour, all US market 25th Anniversary Special Editions were kitted out with Silk Grey leather upholstery. The steering wheel and Exclusive centre console were trimmed to match. Ruched leather was used for the seats, the fronts of which were accessorised with contrast Black piping. Silk Grey velour carpeting was used throughout to include the trunk.

The Exclusive central control panel housed a storage bank for six cassettes (or CDs if optioned as such). Lower down was an analogue outside temperature gauge located in between the air-conditioning controls.

Air-conditioning was fitted as standard along with a short shift gear lever, cruise control, an uprated Blaupunkt Reno H-Fi system with amplifier and a limited-slip differential. Coupes came with a sunroof and Cabriolets got a power-operated roof. A 25th Anniversary Special Edition plaque was added to the glovebox door.

Quite possibly the best remaining of the 40 25th Anniversary Special Edition Cabriolets finished in Satin Black Metallic is currently on offer with Schaltkulisse in Miami.

Delivered new to Ryan Porsche in Fort Worth Texas, in addition to the Anniversary pack, chassis WP0EB0917KS170930 was optioned with the Sport kit that comprised front and rear spoilers and shorter, stiffer dampers.
