Although the 1973 and ‘74 model year 911 Carrera RS in 2.7 and 3-litre trim quickly came to be regarded among Porsche’s most revered road-going models, the company did not create another Renn Sport street car until the early 1990s.

That machine was the 964-based 911 3.6 Carrera RS which debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1991.

Frequently cited by road testers of the time as almost too hardcore for general street use, this first iteration of the 964 Renn Sport subsequently went on to acquire iconic status and spawned an array of even more extreme spin offs with the subsequent racing versions going on to dominate the junior categories of international GT racing for several years.

Of the 2282 examples of the 964 3.6 Carrera RS produced between 1991 and ‘92, a particularly fine example is currently on offer at the Tomini Classics showroom in Dubai.

Configured in the popular colour scheme of Guards Red over a Black and Grey interior, this superb 1992 car was also optioned with the M002 Touring back and remains in fantastic unrestored condition having remained in the care of its first owner until 2017.

It has today covered a mere 18,400km and boasts a full Porsche main dealer service history from new along with a complete set of books and tools.

Wedged between the G-series and the 993, the Porsche 964 was the brand’s 911 model during the first half of the 1990’s, and was the first 911 to come equipped with multiple creature comforts expected of a 1990’s car, like a fully independent suspension, ABS, and airbags.

Sporting a wide variety of engine and trim choices, the 964 enjoyed massive sales success and had a broad appeal along multiple consumer segments, from their lightweight RS models, to their beefy 3.6L Turbo variants, or their automatic ‘Tiptronic’ offerings.

The Carrera RS model resurrects the brand’s Rennsport heritage, initiated by the 2.7-litre and 3.0 RS and RSR variants of the early seventies. The cocktail of a 265hp flat-six, a G50/10 gearbox with shortened ratios, and a strict reduction of weight to 1,220 kilos —close to 130 less than a Carrera 2— ensured a pure, dynamic driving experience.

This desirable, low-mileage European example was completed at the factory on the April 29th, 1992, and delivered new by Hahn Sportwagen in Stuttgart, Germany. The original owner kept it under personal and company ownership for 25 years, to later sell it to a dealer near Vancouver (Canada) in 2017.

Before the turn of the decade, the car moved to a Porsche dealer’s stock in Ottawa, and was subsequently bought by us. The car was sold by us in early 2022, and it has now returned to our stock one year and a half later, after only 500km of use.

Serviced at the Porsche dealer all its life, this rare RS is in exceptional cosmetic and mechanical condition, and is accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and a wealth of books, records, and accessories.
