One to Buy: Le Mans class-winning 1977 Porsche 934 Kremer Spezial
As the most renowned Porsche racing equipe in Europe, Erwin and Manfred Kremer’s team was able to acquire naked 911 bodyshells from the factory in Stuttgart that were then assembled to the most exacting standards.
In 1976, Kremer most notably created their own 935 to take on the Martini-backed works team in the new Group 5 class of the World Sportscar Championship. A factory built 934 was also raced to several victories in the Group 4 category.
For 1977, Kremer acquired a factory built customer 935 (the first year such a car had been offered) and also built up a pair of Kremer Spezials: 935 chassis 007 0016 and 934 chassis 006 0022.
On January 18th, that Kremer Porsche 934 will be going under the hammer at Mecum’s Kissimmee auction.
Tailored to the preferences of Kremer’s number one driver, Bob Wollek, chassis 006 0022 ran a successful 1977 campaign that notably yielded a debut victory in the DARM race at Hockenheim (followed by an array of podium finishes) and, most significantly, a class win and seventh place finish overall at the Le Mans 24 Hours.
For the 1978 season, Kremer sold chassis 006 0022 to the first of several privateer owners. In 1981 it departed for Japan and more than two decades of careful storage.
25 years later, in 2006, the car was restored by Kremer Racing and it is today presented in superb condition complete with its all-important original ONS-Wagenpass.
