One to Buy: ex-Gerrit Bloemendal 1 of 2 in Verde Roadster 1994 Lamborghini Diablo SE30
/ Ben Tyer
Arguably the most extreme Diablo to emerge from Sant’Agata was the one-off Roadster Prototype which Lamborghini presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1992.
With its cut-down windscreen, matching wraparound side glass and a rear deck that featured massive shoulder-mounted intakes, the Roadster Prototype was a radical interpretation of how an open top Diablo could look.
Ultimately, a more practical configuration with a full height screen and detachable targa-style roof panel was adopted for the production Roadster that emerged in late 1995. However, a couple of customers who had seen the extraordinary prototype decided to configure their Diablos in the same spectacular light pearlescent acid green paint that had adorned the original Geneva Salon car.
Included among the handful of buyers to opt for Lamborghini’s rarely seen Verde Roadster colourway were a brace with SE30 orders, one of which was the first owner of chassis RLA12076 which is currently residing at the Curated showroom in Miami.
The 76th of 150 SE30s produced, RLA12076 was delivered on November 15th 1994 as the personal car of Lamborghini’s Dutch distributor, Gerrit Bloemendal, whose name adorns the numbered cockpit plaque. In addition to its unusual exterior colour, the SE30 was ordered with two-tone Verde / Grigio alcantara upholstery, four-point harnesses, a fire system and an ashtray.
Currently showing a little under 27,000km, the freshly serviced RLA12076 comes with Polo Storico certification and is accompanied by its original book pack and tool kit.
