One to Buy: 1 of 1 in Argento / Rosso 1995 Lamborghini Diablo SE30
/ Ben Tyer
To celebrate Lamborghini’s 30th anniversary as an auto maker and homologate an uprated Diablo for GT racing, the limited edition SE30 was unveiled in September 1993.
Significantly lighter, sharper and more powerful than the basic rear-drive Diablo upon which it was based, the SE30 also featured an array of exterior and interior enhancements that gave it a distinctive new look.
While an extra 33bhp may have represented a fairly modest 7% gain, where the SE30 really stood apart was its dramatically reduced weight; at 1447kg in standard trim it tipped the scales 129kg lighter than a rear-wheel drive Diablo and 178kg less than the all-wheel drive Diablo VT.
Unsurprisingly, despite having been launched during what were still quite tough economic times, Lamborghini managed to shift all 150 units and the first customer SE30s began to emerge from Sant’Agata in June 1994.
Of the 150 Diablo SE30s delivered to customers, the majority were configured in Lamborghini’s striking Viola Metallizzato which was created specially for this variant.
However, a good number of customers opted to commission their car in a more individual colour scheme, one of whom was the first owner of chassis RLA12049 which is currently residing at the Curated showroom in Miami.
Delivered to Europe in 1995, RLA12049 was the 49th SE30 completed and the only one that rolled off the production line in the stunning combination of Argento with Rosso upholstery.
Recently restored to concours condition, RLA12049 is being offered with a little over 39,000km on the odometer.
