One to Buy: Unique 1998 Paris Motor Show Lamborghini Diablo Pregunta by Heuliez
/ Ben Tyer
At the Paris Motor Show in September 1998, French coachbuilder Heuliez unveiled one of the most spectacular Lamborghini-based design concepts of the 20th century: the Pregunta.
Based on Diablo chassis KLA12005 which was supplied to Heuliez by Automobili Lamborghini, the Pregunta’s dramatic carbonfibre body, its canopy-style window treatment and stealthy matt paint finish took inspiration from Dassault’s Rafale fighter jet.
Lamborghini’s trademark scissor doors were retained and, by manually fitting two removable polycarbonate roof panels, the car’s configuration could be switched from Roadster to Coupe.
The state-of-art aviation theme continued inside with two-tone alcantara, modernist technical fabric and an array of high-tech gadgets.
The long list of electronic gear included side-mounted rear view-cameras with an LCD screen (instead of conventional exterior mirrors), satellite-navigation, fibre-optic ambient lighting, digital Magnetti Marelli instrumentation and an Alpine audio system.
On October 10th, the one-off Pregunta will be going under the hammer at Broad Arrow Auctions’ Zoute Concours d’Elegance sale in Belgium.
Retained by Heuliez until 2007 when it was sold to a collector who in turn kept the car for the next 18 years, KLA12005 was issued Lamborghini Polo Storico certification in 2014 and was serviced by the official classic Lamborghini restoration division in 2021.
