One to Buy: ex-Nasir Khalidi 6700km 1990 Lamborghini LM American

During the early 1990s, Lamborghini offered arguably the ultimate two-car pairing by a single manufacturer: the Diablo and LM002.

The Diablo was of course Lamborghini’s recently introduced replacement for the long-running Countach. Adopting a softer, more curvaceous design language than its predecessor, the scissor-doored Diablo ranked among the fastest and most spectacular supercars of its era.

Remarkably, the other model in Lamborghini’s line-up was even more striking.

Born from the ashes of a failed military all terrain vehicle, the LM002 ultimately morphed into a high end SUV that, on account of its exotic V12 engine, exorbitant price and extraordinary appearance, was in a league of one.

Four years after the LM002’s launch, Lamborghini added a fuel-injected version to the range. Sometimes referred to as the LM American, it was also offered with a new line of optional extras to include chromed bull bars and headlight bezels, front spot lights, a stripe kit, deep side skirts, body coloured grilles, contrast seat piping and a Lamborghini-branded tonneau for the rear bed.

One customer that went the whole hog and ordered a Diablo and fully optioned LM American was Nasir Khalidi, a distinguished neurologist from Port Charlotte, Florida. Today, that LM American, chassis LLA12213 is currently residing at the Curated showroom in Miami.

Finished in Bianco with Rosso upholstery and Bianco piping, chassis LLA12213 was completed on July 13th 1990 and delivered on November 20th to Chrysler Italian Imports Inc. in New Jersey. Both the LM American and Diablo were delivered to Dr. Khalidi in June 1991 at a combined price of $382,210.

Today, this extraordinary LM has covered a little over 6700km.
