History of chassis 1120004

Chassis 1120004 was the third Countach LP400 built. It followed the Geneva Show cars from 1973 (chassis 1120001) and 1974 (chassis 1120002) from which point on Lamborghini adopted an even numbered VIN sequence.

Effectively the first customer LP400, chassis 1120004 rolled out of the factory painted Rosso with a Nero interior and was signed off on May 14th 1974.

From Sant’Agata , 1120004 headed down to Rome where the SEA Auto dealership supplied it to local resident, Antonio Scotti. Little is currently known about Sig. Scotti; his red Countach was road registered on 20th June and issued Roma plate N47444.

Just over a year later (in August 1975), chassis 1120004 was sent across the Atlantic via Orazio Vitali to Joe Nastati’s Milazzo Racing Car Corporation in Brooklyn, New York. The car was shipped at considerably less than market value (just $10,000) and was subsequently registered that November.

Nastasi sold 1120004 to New York resident Dimitri Kurshek of Jackson Avenue.

It is unclear precisely how long Kurshek retained the car, but by 1980 it was in the possession of fellow New Yorker, Bob Rusie of Hicksville.

Between 1980 and ‘83, Rusie had ex-Lamborghini development engineer Bob Wallace convert the car to what was dubbed SV trim which included all the latest S-type body additions, a rear spoiler and a twin turbocharged motor.

Chassis 1120004’s story then went quiet until 1999 when it was donated to a motor museum, after which the car appeared at a Christie’s auction in 2004.

Since then this early Countach has been restored to its original 1974 trim.
