One to Buy: 980km Giallo 1994 Bugatti EB110 SS (Dauer EB110 S)

Before the McLaren F1 arrived to completely redefine the high end supercar game, Bugatti’s EB110 in SS or Super Sport trim ruled the roost as the fastest, most elaborately engineered new car on the market.

Bugatti conceived the SS to sell alongside the existing EB110 GT as a more hardcore, more driver-focused machine aimed at those customers for whom performance was everything.

Unfortunately, with its higher price tag and more specialised nature, the SS proved less popular than the base GT and not even three dozen were completed between 1992 and ‘95 when Bugatti filed for bankruptcy.

At the time, there simply weren’t enough buyers around for a car that retailed at several hundred thousand dollars and Bugatti only hit a fraction of its sales target. After massive investment in a state-of-art new factory and millions in development costs, barley 100 copies of the EB110 were sold in all forms and the lights had to be turned off.

Most of the juicy parts from the sale of Bugatti’s assets were purchased by Jochen Dauer whose company had gained notoriety for its Porsche 962-based Dauer 962 LM conversion. A number of specially configured EB110s were subsequently built up at the Dauer works, one of which is chassis CD39024 which is currently on offer at the Miller Motorcars showroom in Greenwich, Connecticut.

Finished in arguably the best colour scheme for one of these cars, Giallo with Nero upholstery, chassis CD39024 looks to still be in as-new condition with just 981km on the odometer.
