One to Buy: Non-sunroof Turquoise Diamond Metallic 1976 Porsche 911 3.0 Turbo (930)

During the 1970s, Porsche’s 911 saw off practically all its rivals in the Group 4 GT racing class thanks to a pair of homologation specials conceived specifically for the job: the 911 2.7 Carrera RS and 930.

Better known as the 911 Turbo, in addition to the Group 4 class 934, the 930 also spawned the even more extreme 935 for the Group 5 category. Together, the 934 and 935 went on to dominate their respective classes well into the 1980s despite having first taken to the tracks for the 1976 season.

Porsche unveiled the 911 Turbo in 3-litre trim at the Frankfurt Motor Show in October 1974. With its combination of day-to-day practicality, outstanding build quality and supercar-rivalling performance, the firm’s flagship offering went on to become a legitimate alternative to anything the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati or Aston Martin had to offer.

Here at Supercar Nostalgia we are not a fan of the resto mod movement and believe classic cars should remain in period specification. If an as-new machine is the requirement, don’t go to Singer (or even worse Gunther Werks) instead head to a firm like Early 911S in Wuppertal, Germany, where you can collect an immaculately restored Porsche as is should be – original.

One of our favourite 911 Turbos currently on offer with Early 911S is a spectacular example from April 1976.

Configured in the sensational and almost certainly unique combination of Turquoise Diamond Metallic with Yellow upholstery and tartan seat inlays, this non-sunroof 930 comes with a remarkable two year warranty that is testament to the Early 911S standard of workmanship.
