One to Buy: No Sunroof Light Yellow Euro-spec. 1975 Porsche 911 2.7 Carrera

While most other sports car manufacturers struggled to integrate the more intrusive safety equipment being mandated in most major markets during the 1970s, some innovative design saw features like impact-absorbing bumpers integrated to the Porsche 911 with aplomb.

For the first two years of impact bumper 911 production, Porsche offered the series production 911 with 2.7-litre Flat 6 engines in three states of tune: the entry level 150bhp base model 911, the 175bhp mid-range 911 S and the flagship 210bhp 911 Carrera. All three variants could be ordered as either a Coupe or Targa.

Unfortunately, owing to stringent emissions legislation in the United States, there was no way the 210bhp engine used in the 911 Carrera (the same mechanically fuel-injected unit used in the fabled 2.7-litre Carrera RS of 1972-1973) could be made to meet Environmental Protection Agency requirements.

As a consequence, the 175bhp 911 S motor was fitted to these US-bound 911 Carreras, which makes a full fat European spec. example from the 1974-1975 model year a rare thing in the US.

Just such a car is currently on offer with Autosport Designs in Long Island, New York.

Completed in April 1975 and delivered via Raffay Porsche in Hamburg, this 911 Carrera was ordered as a Light Yellow Coupe with Black Shetland leatherette upholstery, Fuchs alloy wheels, a limited-slip differential, Bilstein shocks, a rear windscreen wiper and tinted glass.

Perhaps most significantly, it was also configured in hugely desirable ‘non sunroof’ trim resulting in the lightest, stiffest bodyshell.

Offered with a tool kit, tyre kit, spare wheel, jack, original book pack, date matched spare wheel and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
