One to Buy: 17,000 mile ex-Car and Driver 1982 DP 935 I Porsche 911 3.3 Turbo (930)

Between the late 1970s and mid 1980s, Ekkehard Zimmerman’s DP Motorsport in Cologne run did a roaring trade creating some of the most iconic custom Porsches to emerge during the golden super tuning era.

However, as a consequence of DP’s racing credentials – this was of course the same firm that supplied bodywork to the all-conquering Kremer outfit just down the road – Zimmerman’s Porsche specials came with a pedigree that set them apart from rival companies.

For American fans of the super tuner scene, among the most famous Porsches to have undergone the DP Motorsport treatment will have been the car that appeared in Car and Driver’s 1984 Buyer’s Guide.

A second generation version that incorporated Porsche’s OEM impact bumpers at either end, this machine was fitted with a 3.4-litre Ruf BTR engine that developed 390bhp and featured an adjustable boost dial between the seats.

Car and Driver’s Csaba Csere wrote:

The DP 935 lunged from a standing start to 60 mph in a mere 4.6 seconds, 100 came up in but 10.5 seconds, and 130 was only another 8.8 seconds away. It scorched the quarter-mile in 12.8 seconds at 112 mph.

But even these fabulous figures don't convey the car's sheer thrust. The DP 935 delivers an incredibly strong shove in the back, and the punch never seems to quit. Even at 120 mph it pulls harder than a Scirocco at 50. Not until well past 140 mph does your breath come back and the acceleration of this juggernaut fall to a familiar level.

On the skidpad, we measured 0.84 g of stick, the best we've ever seen on a roadgoing Porsche.”

Right now, this spectacular DP Motorsport 935 which has covered just 17,000 miles from new is on offer at the RMC Miami showroom.
