VIN: Production Spec #1 - Lamborghini Countach LP400 chassis 1120002
History of chassis 1120002
Chassis 1120002 was the first production-spec. Countach LP400 and the third Countach built after the original LP500 prototype (first displayed at Geneva in 1971) and the LP400 prototype (first displayed at the same location in 1973: chassis 1120001).
1120002 was configured with Giallo Fly paint and Senape leather upholstery.
Soon after completion it starred on the Lamborghini stand at the 1974 Geneva Motor Show which opened on March 13th. Lamborghini also used this car for the original Countach brochure and owner’s handbook (during which time it wore the registration plate EE 60697).
Following its dispatch to the Milan Lamborghini dealer, Achilli Motors, on April 13th 1974, chassis 1120002 was loaned to several European motor magazines, some of which featured the yellow Countach on their cover. By this time the car had been registered MI U46819.
Come the late 1970s, chassis 1120002 had been exported to Germany and re-painted white.
Bizarrely, a Berlin custodian subsequently reconfigured the back end to incorporate a set of Mercedes-Benz tail lights and added a massive three-pointed star emblem on the front lid. The owner was apparently a fan of the unique Mercedes-based BB CW311 concept displayed at the 1978 Frankfurt Motor Show and modified his Countach into a weird tribute.
Fortunately, chassis 1120002 was restored to its original configuration in the late 1990s.
