One to Buy: Speed Yellow 2001 Porsche 911 3.6 Turbo 'Exclusive Club Sport' (996)

Perhaps the most frustrating aspect of many cars that have gone through Porsche’s Exclusive programme is just how unimaginative most of the customers were at the point of order: leather covered everything and a peculiar colour combination is one thing, but the opportunity was there to create a unique car with special performance-oriented features and emerge with something that Porsche never offered to the general public.

From time-to-time though such a machine does pop up, as in the case of 996 Turbo chassis 682136 which is currently on offer at the Schaltkulisse showroom in Taufkirchen, Germany.

Delivered in January 2001, the original Barcelona-based owner had 682136 configured to an almost certainly unique specification that focused on essentially bringing the car up to what would have been known as Club Sport specification had Porsche openly offered such a package.

With this in mind, the car emerged from the Exclusive department with GT3-style single-piece fibreglass-shelled Recaro bucket seats (trimmed in leather), rear seat delete and a roll cage. To further reduce weight, the door panels, instrument surround, dashboard trim strip, speaker covers, side air vents, central air vent surround and defroster trim were upgraded to exposed carbonfibre.

Other optional extras included a leather covered ignition lock surround, automatic anti-dazzle mirrors (complete with rain sensor), a top tinted windscreen, parking sensors and a Becker Porsche CD-32 audio system with CD storage compartment.

In terms of the bucket seats (option codes XSE and XSF), rear seat delete (XSN) and roll cage (XSL), only three 996 Turbos were reputedly equipped as such (chassis 681143, 681550 and this car, 682136). Other aspects of the specification included Speed Yellow paint, Black upholstery and, importantly, no sunroof.

As you might expect with such an extensively personalised machine, the first owner of chassis 682136 retained his car for an extended time period (until 2024). During this time the car was serviced practically every year (by Porsche at circa 2000km intervals).

Today, this almost certainly unique 996 Turbo is being offered with a little over 57,000km on the odometer.
