One to Buy: ex-JLOC 2005 Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT
/ Ben Tyer
Ferruccio Lamborghini famously declared that his auto maker would play no official part in motor racing and remained true to his word until exiting the company in 1974.
Under subsequent ownership, Lamborghini went on to produce an impressive Formula 1 engine that never realised its true potential followed by several GT racing iterations of the Diablo, but it wasn’t until after Audi had assumed control in 1998 that the firm really began to take competition seriously.
With five years having passed since the German giant assumed ownership, a GT1 version of the critically acclaimed Murcielago emerged in late 2003 thanks to the combined efforts of Reiter Engineering and Audi Sport.
Currently on the market with Jarrah Venables in Chichester, West Sussex, is one of these rarely seen cars with a fascinating history: chassis 1061.
One of four Murcielago R-GTs originally supplied to the Japanese Lamborghini Owners Club, 1061 was initially campaigned in the Japanese Super GT Championship where the privateer car went head-to-head with factory-backed opposition from the likes of Nissan, Honda and Toyota. It then had a successful time in the Asian Le Mans Series.
More recently, chassis 1061 has been converted to road going trim by renowned preparation experts BBM Sport in Daventry.
