One to Buy: 2 owner 20,000 mile 1989 Porsche 911 3.3 Turbo (930)

Although it was conceived to homologate turbocharged racing cars for Group 4 and Group 5 racing, the 930 became so popular that it unexpectedly stole a significant number of sales from the front-engine 928 grand tourer which Porsche had expected would ultimately replace the 911.

With its wide-arches, big spoilers and legendary performance, the 930 became a genuine automotive icon during the 1970s and ‘80s; it offered customers a package that could match anything Ferrari, Lamborghini or Aston Martin had to offer, but with unmatched day-to-day practicality and considerably lower running costs.

Arguably the two most significant updates made to the 930 during its decade-and-a-half in production were the switch from a 3.0 to 3.3-litre engine for the 1978 model year and the move to a five instead of four-speed gearbox for the final model year (1989).

Currently on offer with Fantasy Junction in Emeryville, California, is one of those rare five-speed examples of the 930.

Configured in Black Schwartz paint with Cashmere upholstery to include desirable Ruffled leather, chassis ‘KS050390’ was also specified with a Limited-Slip Differential, Short Gear Shift Lever and Sunroof along with rarely seen Rear Model Designation delete.

Delivered new to California, this handsomely specified example was later uprated with a KKK K27 turbocharger plus an intercooler from renowned Porsche tuner, Andial. It has today covered a mere 20,000 miles from new, was retained by the first owner until 2022 and is presented in excellent unrestored condition.
