One to Buy: 13,000km from new 1996 Ferrari F50

After the 288 GTO and F40 had used twin turbocharged V8s to propel them to hitherto unseen levels of performance, Ferrari took a different approach for their third generation limited production flagship: the F50.

The F50 was instead powered by an F1-derived normally aspirated V12 that Ferrari needed to put into production in order to homologate the engine already being used by the 333 SP racing car.

While the 333 SP went on to have a stellar career, Ferrari built just 349 examples of the F50 between 1995 and 1997. It came with an all-carbonfibre construction, a 512bhp 4.7-litre V12, six-speed manual gearbox and rose-jointed double wishbone suspension with push-rods, coil springs and electronically adjustable Bilstein dampers.

Currently on offer with ISSIMI is this 1996 F50 finished in the traditional colour scheme of Rosso Corsa with matching fabric seat centres.

Delivered new on October 16th 1996, chassis 106475 was sold through Lightspeed (a dealer from in La Spezia, Italy that specialised in grey market cars for export) to Japanese property group Katougumidoken Ltd. The car subsequently changed hands several times between Katougumidoken employees until 2005 when it was acquired by the company’s creditor, Alpus Finance.

It then found its way to Switzerland (in 2014) and the USA (in 2021), by which time the car was showing a little over 13,000km. Following its arrival in the US, chassis 106475 has undergone a $58,000 service, since which time only 50 miles has been covered. The car comes with its original book pack, took kit, storage case and a Ferrari Certificate of Authenticity.
