One to Buy: 1 of 1 in Giallo ex-Phil Bachman 2006 Ferrari FXX Evoluzione

Although the FXX was created exclusively for track day use, it gave a tantalising glimpse of what a GT1 Enzo may have looked like had Ferrari decided to go racing with its flagship supercar.

In total, 30 customer copies of the original FXX were produced between 2005 and ‘06, the owners of which got to use their cars at Ferrari’s XX international-level track events between 2006 and ‘07 where an official team of technicians was on hand to provide all the assistance required.

At the Suzuka XX event in July 2007, Ferrari announced an Evoluzione kit would be available by the end of that year. For an additional €1.5m, customers could have their car uprated to Evoluzione trim and experience another two years of the XX programme.

Enhancements included a revised aero pack, long-life tyres / brake pads and an improved traction control system with nine different settings. A new telemetry system now monitored the steering angle and brake pump pressure in addition to the existing parameters.

Re-mapped engine management software saw peak output increase to 848bhp at 9500rpm and 508lb-ft at 5750rpm (up from 800bhp at 8500rpm and 506lb-ft at 5750rpm respectively). The gearbox software was re-mapped to cut shift times from 80 milliseconds to just 60 and new ratios were fitted.

Top speed went from 214mph to 218mph while the 0-62mph time dropped from 2.77 seconds to just 2.5. The Evoluzione was also two seconds per lap faster around Ferrari’s Fiorano test track than the original FXX.

Of the 30 customer cars originally produced (Ferrari also manufactured one prototype and three brand new FXX Evoluziones), only one was configured in Giallo: chassis 146361.

On January 17th that car will be going under the hammer at Mecum’s Kissimmee auction with no reserve.

Chassis 146361 was originally supplied to the late Phil Bachman of Greeneville, Tennessee, who from 1984 until 2017 accumulated a 46-strong collection of new and classic Ferraris.

In addition to its one-off colour scheme, chassis 146351 was uniquely ordered with carbonfibre Prancing Horse emblem fender plates signed by the assembly line staff.

Between 2006 and ‘11, Phil Bachman was one of the most active FXX drivers, participating in 22 XX Programme events at 16 tracks on four continents. His one-of-one FXX heads to auction with 2318km on the odometer and is accompanied by its original tool / equipment chests, all handbooks / manuals and Ferrari Classiche Red Book certification.
