One to Buy: Luci del Bosco 1983 Lamborghini Countach 5000 S

The 5000 S was the third official iteration of the Countach. Most notably, it combined the body of the Series 3 Countach LP400 S (which had ushered in much-improved build quality and a little extra space) with a new 4.8-litre engine that offered a significantly enhanced torque curve.

Introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 1982, the 5000 S was produced for three years and played a key role in Automobili Lamborghini’s revival under Mimram Group ownership.

The 5000 S and its successor, the famous Countach Quattrovalvole, went head-to-head with Ferrari’s 512i BB (1981-1984) and Ferrari Testarossa (1984-1992). They generally represented a more flamboyant, less compromised expression of the 1980s supercar art than the regular products from Maranello.

Furthermore, as a consequence of this more extreme nature, the Countach was even able to compete against Ferrari’s Group B-derived super specials of the era: the 288 GTO and F40.

In total, 321 examples of the 5000 S were completed at Lamborghini’s Sant’Agata factory, the overwhelming majority of which were painted either red, white or black. More sophisticated dark metallics were comparatively rare and generally selected by customers for whom style was more important than the latest fashion.

One such car, chassis DLA12606, is currently on the market at the Rosier Classic Sterne showroom in Oldenburg, Germany.

A left-hand drive home market 5000 S dispatched on June 26th 1983 to Lamborghini agent Emilian Auto in Bologna, DLA12606 was configured in the sensational colour scheme of Luci del Bosco with Naturale upholstery. It had moved to Germany by the 1990s and is currently showing a little under 50,000km.
