One to Buy: ex-Porsche AG non-sunroof 2003 Porsche 911 3.6 Carrera 'Ruf Kompressor Kit'

In early 2005, renowned Porsche tuner Ruf announced the availability of a Kompressor Kit for normally aspirated 996 and 997 Carrera-type 911s.

At its heart, the Ruf Kompressor Kit featured an ASA centrifugal supercharger that was mechanically driven by a Poly-Rip belt. Intercooling was by way of an electric pump-driven water circuit for which a radiator was housed behind the front apron. Other enhancements included modified fuel injectors, a new intake manifold, free-flow catalytic converters and an uprated Engine Control Unit.

When applied to Porsche’s 3.6-litre 996-type Carrera motor, the Kompressor Kit (which ran at a maximum boost pressure of 0.5 bar) took peak output north of Porsche’s 911 GT3 with figures of 380bhp and 310lb-ft.

On 30th January, a particularly interesting one of these rarely seen cars will be going under the hammer at Broad Arrow Auctions’ Europe Online sale.

Chassis WP0ZZZ99Z3S605887 started life as a non-sunroof 2003 911 3.6 Carrera Coupe equipped to a very high specification. Configured in Speed Yellow with Black upholstery, ‘605887’ was optioned with an array of desirable upgrades to include the X51 Power Kit, Aero Kit, Sport suspension, heated Sports seats with body coloured backs, Yellow seatbelts, Yellow instrument faces and a Yellow centre console.

The car was retained by Porsche for the first two years of its life, reportedly being used for promotional duty. Chassis ‘605887’ was then sold to a Luxembourg-based owner who, in March 2006, dispatched it to Ruf’s Pfaffenhausen workshop for installation of the Kompressor Kit.

In addition to the Kompressor Kit, the car’s first private owner ordered a Ruf clutch and flywheel kit, Ruf front apron and Ruf’s signature 18-inch wheels.

During 2010, chassis ‘605887’ was sold again. A subsequent owner was well known collector, ex-Lotus F1 boss, head of Genii Capital and Ruf Chairman, Gerard Lopez. The consigning owner acquired the car in February 2022.

This superb Speed Yellow 911 heads to auction with a little under 74,000km on the odometer having most recently been serviced in December 2024. It is accompanied by the original book pack and tool kit along with documentation of the work carried out by Ruf.
