One to Buy: Atlas Grey 2008 Porsche 911 GT2 (997)
By combining the hardcore, rear-drive nature of the normally aspirated GT3 with the forced induction grunt and widebody chassis of the Turbo, the resultant GT2 became the ultimate expression of a 911 following its launch back in 2001.
The original 996-based GT2, produced between ‘01 and ‘05, was followed by a 997 version in 2007. It followed a similar theme with more horsepower, trick aero, uprated brakes, a stiffer set-up and a pared back two-seat cockpit.
As expected, the 997 GT2 slotted into Porsche’s line up as the fastest 911 seen thus far.
Owing to its high price and extreme nature, just 1241 examples of the 997 GT2 were produced between 2007 and 2009. This was slightly less than the 1287 units managed with the previous 996 variant.
For those looking to add one of these future classics to their collection, a superb example of the rare 997 GT2 is currently on offer at the Dutton Garage showroom in Richmond, Victoria.
Chassis ‘794704’ is configured in the fabulous colour scheme of Atlas Grey with Charcoal upholstery and was further optioned to include red gauges, the extended navigation module and additional carbonfibre.
Originally delivered by Porsche Centre Gold Coast, this immaculate car has covered a little under 38,000km, is one of fewer than 30 imported by Porsche Cars Australia and comes with a flawless service record, with the last service conducted just 40km ago.
