One to Buy: 8000 mile 1988 Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera Targa Commemorative Edition

To celebrate the remarkable feat of having produced 250,000 911s over a 25 year period, Porsche created a limited edition Commemorative model during the 1988 model year.

Configured to the personal specification of Ferry Porsche himself, these cars were based on the venerable 3.2-litre Carrera which is commonly regarded as the best series production version of the G body 911 manufactured between 1973 and 1989.

Commemorative Edition 3.2 Carreras were all painted Diamond Blue Metallic and came with body coloured wheel centres, crushed Diamond Blue leather upholstery, Ferry Porsche signatures embroidered on the headrests, the short-shift gear lever from the Club Sport, velour carpet throughout, fully electric seats and model designation delete.

In total, 875 copies were produced, a figure that comprised 300 units for the United States, 250 for Germany and 325 for Rest of World markets. 50 such cars were imported to the UK: 30 Coupes, ten Targas and ten Convertibles.

Of the ten Commemorative Edition 911 Targas imported to the UK, almost certainly the finest to exist is currently residing at the Hexagon Classics showroom in London.

Supplied new by Charles Follett Porsche of Mayfair in July 1988, this superb, unrestored and totally original example has covered a little under 8000 miles and is accompanied by a fully documented history file.
