One to Buy: 60 miles from new 1989 Porsche 911 3.2 Speedster

The Frankfurt Motor Show of September 1988 marked the beginning of one era for the Porsche 911 and the end of another.

Perhaps most significantly, the event saw the debut of Porsche’s next generation 911, the 964, which was presented in Carrera 4 Coupe trim.

With its face-lifted appearance, four-wheel drive running gear and plethora of technical updates, the Carrera 4 looked very much to the future. Meanwhile, presented alongside it was another new creation that had one eye on Porsche’s illustrious past.

That car was the 911 3.2 Speedster, an homage to the iconic 356 Speedsters produced between 1954 and 1958 and the last iteration of Porsche’s fabled G body 911 that had been around in one shape or form since late 1973.

Of the little over 2000 911 Speedsters built by Porsche between January and September of 1989, 823 were delivered new to the USA, a particularly fine example of which is set to go under the hammer at RM Sotheby’s sale in South Beach, Miami, on 10th December.

Configured in Black with matching Black upholstery, chassis WP0EB0916KS173380 was also specified with the optional limited-slip differential, Sports seats, air-conditioning and cruise control. Delivered via Porsche Audi of Los Angeles on January 12th 1989, the car was placed straight into storage.

Remarkably, it has today covered just 60 miles from new and is about as close as one could hope to get to a factory fresh delivery mileage 911 3.2 Speedster.
