One to Buy: 13,000 mile Light Yellow 1989 Porsche 911 3.2 Speedster

Between 1983 and 1989 Porsche produced several iterations of the 3.2-litre 911 Carrera which have come to be regarded as all-time classics. Among the most sought after are the super lightweight 1984 model year base Carrera Coupe and subsequent 1988 to 1989 model year Carrera Club Sport Coupe, but perhaps the true icon is the 1989 model year-only Speedster.
Created as a modern homage to the iconic 356 Speedsters of the 1950s, the 911 Speedster tapped into a red hot collector car market that had been turbocharged by an influx of speculators looking for alternative investments after the Black Monday stock market crash of October 1987.
Porsche announced a limited run of 2000 Speedsters would be manufactured with production slated to run from January until September of 1989.

Set to go under the hammer at Broad Arrow Auctions’ Porsche Air|Water auction on Saturday 26th April in Costa Mesa, California, is a 1989 Speedster originally configured to an almost certainly one-of-one specification.
Supplied new to Porsche main dealer Southpoint WGW in Houston, Texas, chassis WP0EB0918KS173672 was ordered with a Paint-to-Sample Light Yellow exterior with matching wheel centres, Mahogany upholstery with matching roof, electric seats, a Blaupunkt Reno audio system, cruise control, air-conditioning and a short-shift gear lever, all features the car retains today.

Furnished with a copy of the original window sticker, owner's manuals, tool roll, service gloves, first aid kit, and space-saver spare
This exceptional 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster is one of just 823 examples produced for the U.S. market. Finished in Paint-to-Sample non-metallic Light Yellow (L117)—a heritage color that first appeared in 1970—its striking hue is perhaps best recognized by Porsche aficionados as the most popular color with black side stripes selected on the fabled Carrera 2.7 RS.
The Speedster's original window sticker shows that this stunning color selection was a $2,134 charge when new and was accompanied by other factory-specified options such as fully power-adjustable seats left and right, cruise control, an alarm system, a shorter gear shift lever, a steering wheel with a raised hub, air conditioning, and a Blaupunkt Reno cassette stereo. Neatly completing this specification was a supple Mahogany partial leather interior with a brown soft top, as well as matching Light Yellow 16-inch Fuchs forged alloy wheels.
The new Speedster commanded an impressive total sticker price of $73,822 when it was sold through Southpoint WGW Ltd. in Houston, Texas.
The original Warranty & Maintenance booklet notes that the Speedster was delivered on 14 August 1989. The accompanying clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report shows initial registrations in Washington in 1991 and 2001, followed by registration under new ownership in Los Osos, California, by early 2004.
Subsequent service and inspection records indicate that the car remained in California until at least 2013, later being registered in Florida and Montana.
Now offered from the current California-based owner with just 13,017 original miles at cataloging, the car is accompanied by a copy of its original window sticker, owner's manuals, tool roll, service gloves, first aid kit, and space-saver spare.
Powered by the venerable 3.2-liter flat-six engine paired with the desirable G50 five-speed manual transaxle, this Speedster delivers the quintessential air-cooled Porsche driving experience.
Additionally, in December 2023 at 12,695 miles, it received a thorough servicing which included replacing the drive belts, mounting four new Bridgestone Potenza Sport tires, brake flush service, fuel filter replacement and tank flush, new spark plugs, injectors, and O-rings, along with an oil change.
As a preservation-grade Paint-to-Sample example with low mileage and recent paint meter readings confirming it retains its factory Light Yellow finish, this 911 Speedster would make a unique addition to any collection of air-cooled Porsches with absolute rarity as its aim.
