One to Buy: 23,000km Diamond White 1987 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth

Having achieved enormous success together in F1, F2, Touring Cars and Rallying, Ford decided to commission another project from Cosworth, this time for its Group A attack with the recently introduced Sierra.

To power the new machine, Ford asked Cosworth to develop a turbocharged version of the Sierra’s two-litre inline ‘four’ and the legendary YBB motor was born.

Production of the resultant Sierra RS Cosworth began in July 1986 and the 5000 cars required for Group A homologation had rolled out of Ford’s Genk factory in Belgium by December of that year. Homologation was approved on January 1st 1987 and the Cossie went on to have a glittering career at the forefront of international Touring Car racing.

Today, the wild looking Sierra RS Cosworth has come to be regarded as a genuine Ford icon and prices have soared inline with many other Group A homologation specials. And while many of the just over 5000 examples ultimately built were immediately pressed into a daily grind, a few escaped such rigorous use and have been preserved by collectors throughout their lives.

Currently on offer at the Premium Classic showroom in Boxtel, the Netherlands, is just such an example which is showing a mere 23,000km on the odometer.

Originally delivered via Ford Vermeire Knesselare in Aalter, Belgium, and first registered in April 1987, this Diamond White machine still retains its original factory paint and looks to be in superb unrestored condition throughout.

As you would it expect, it comes with a fully documented history to include all the original handbooks and manuals.
