One to Buy: 1 of 1 PTS Light Green Met. 2002 Porsche 911 3.6 Turbo (996)
/ Ben Tyer
The 996 famously broke with existing 911 convention on account of its water-cooled engine and bigger bodyshell. Prior to this, the 911 had always utilised an air-cooled motor and a bodyshell that size-wise had changed little since 1964.
Following its debut in normally aspirated Carrera trim at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1997, Porsche added an RS-style GT3 to the range in early ‘99 followed by a Turbo six months later. Like the outgoing 993-based Turbo, this latest iteration of the forced induction 911 came with full-time four-wheel drive and twin blowers.
Turbo production began in early 2000 and, by the time it was discontinued in 2005, a little over 20,500 had been completed in Coupe and Cabriolet trim.
Unfortunately, owing to ultra conservative tastes at the time, most 996 Turbos emerged in a sea of silver, grey, black and dark blue. However, currently on the market at the Sasso Automotive showroom in East Riding of Yorkshire is a one-of-one Turbo Coupe in a much more interesting configuration.
Ordered in sensational Paint-to-Sample Light Green Metallic, the massive specification also included full black leather, Sports seats, a comprehensive Dark Burr Wood package, an in-car telephone, sunroof and Tiptronic S transmission.
Having been retained by its one and only owner since delivery in March 2002, this exceptional 16,000 mile 996 Turbo Coupe is presented in superb condition throughout.
