One to Buy: Pale Primrose 3rd from last built 1970 Aston Martin DB6 Mk2
/ Ben Tyer
Aston Martin built 1567 examples of the much-loved DB6 between October 1965 and November 1970 of which just 240 were the updated Mk2 variant.
Introduced in July 1969, the Mk2 was a further refined iteration of the DB6 theme. Included among the various upgrades were power steering now fitted as standard, half-inch wider wheels, subtly flared wheelarches, pleated front seats, DBS hubs and a beefier clutch. A fuel-injected engine was also added to the options list but did not prove terribly popular.
Of the 240 Mk2 DB6s built, 202 were Coupes (62 with the optional Vantage engine) and the remaining 38 were Volantes (nine of which had the Vantage engine).
Currently on offer at the DD Classics showroom in Richmond, London, is a particularly nice example of the Mk2 DB6 Coupe finished in a fabulous and rarely seen specification.
Completed on December 16th 1970 as the third from last DB6 to leave the factory, the car was supplied to its first owner via HR Owen of London in sensational Pale Primrose Yellow with Ebony Black Connolly leather upholstery. Optional extras included chrome wire wheels, automatic transmission, a passenger headrest and a Radiomobile 8-track audio system.
Having been retained by its first owner for 20 years, the second custodian kept it for another 27, after which the car departed to Switzerland. This fabulous DB6 is now being offered fresh from £40,000 work at a renowned Aston Martin specialist.
