One to Buy: 68,000 mile Snow Shadow 1960 Aston Martin DB4 Series 1

Aston Martin launched the DB4 in late 1958 to replace the ageing DB MkIII which could trace its origins back to 1949.

In addition to handsome new Touring of Milan coachwork, the DB4 ushered in a heavily revised iteration of Aston’s highly regarded dual overhead cam straight six engine.

As arguably the finest 2+2 GT on the market, demand for the DB4 initially out-stripped supply, despite its prohibitively high price ruling out all but the wealthiest customers.

Even though the DB4 was very well received by press and public alike, it was not long before Aston Martin began to make some changes and, in January 1960, what has retrospectively been dubbed the Series 2 was introduced.

Of the 149 cars built to Series 1 trim, one of the best is currently on offer at the Nicholas Mee showroom in Hatfield, Hertfordshire.

An early example originally configured in Snow Shadow with Grey upholstery and frame-less door glass, chassis DB4/235/R was invoiced on February 11th 1960 and supplied to Jack Slater of Solway Pre-Cast Products Ltd. in Creetown, south-west Scotland.

A frequent attendee at concours events during the early 2000s, in 2017, DB4/235/R was the subject of a bare metal repaint in its original colour and the interior was entirely retrimmed in Burgundy Connolly hide with black carpet.

This superb 68,000 mile DB4 will be supplied fully serviced and freshly prepared by one of the best names in the Aston business.
