One to Buy: 1 of 8 Royal Blue 2000 Aston Martin Vantage Volante V550 / V600 Special Edition

During the 1990s, Aston Martin produced a litany of low volume specials for VIP customers, many of which still remain little known today.

One such model is the spectacular Vantage V550 / V600-based Volante Special Edition, sometimes dubbed the Short Chassis, of which just eight were constructed at vast expense.

Whereas the contemporary V8 Volante was constructed on a long wheelbase chassis with normally aspirated engine, this exclusive batch of special editions combined a drop head body with the supercharged engine and uprated mechanical specification of the formidable Vantage.

Of the eight units built, five were right-hand drive and three were left-hand drive.

Today, one of these rarely seen cars is on offer at the Nicholas Mee showroom in Hatfield, Hertfordshire.

Chassis 71005 was ordered by serial Aston Martin buyer Ron Collier via the Stratton Motor Company. It was configured in Rolls-Royce Royal Blue with a matching Blue mohair roof, Parchment leather upholstery, Dark Blue piping and Blue Wilton carpet.

In 2005, the car’s third owner commissioned Aston Martin Works Service to carry out a full V600 upgrade. Despite having covered just 3800 miles from new, no less than twelve services have been carried out (eleven by Aston Martin Works Service and one at Aston Martin Mayfair).

Accordingly, chassis 71005 is offered in superb condition throughout and is accompanied by a complete leather-bound history file which includes its dedicated Aston Martin-produced photographic build book.
