One to Buy: ex-Geneva Motor Show 1963 Aston Martin DB4 Vantage Series V

Two years after Aston Martin had launched its souped up, short wheelbase, more aerodynamically efficient DB4 GT, the company introduced a visually similar iteration of the regular DB4 with an engine that offered a circa 10% power hike.

Dubbed DB4 Vantage, this latest addition to the DB4 line combined an identical air piercing front end to the racey GT, but with the roomier 2+2 cockpit most customers desired. In the engine bay was a straight six equipped with triple instead of twin SU carburettors, a higher compression ratio and a big valve cylinder head.

Just 168 copies of the DB4 Vantage were built between 1961 and ‘63, 136 of which were Saloons and the remaining 32 Convertibles. 76 of the Vantage Saloons were constructed on the Series 4 DB4 platform with the other 60 having been based on the last-of-line Series 5 variant.

Today, among the most significant Series 5s, the car displayed by Aston Martin at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show, is residing at The Houtkamp Collection in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, Holland.

One of 20 left-hand drive units built to Series V Vantage trim, this car was produced in the stunning colour scheme of Platinum with Red upholstery as depicted here. Optional extras included an overdrive manual gearbox and special ‘Show Finish’ for the engine bay.

More recently, this gorgeous DB4 Vantage has undergone a cost-no-object exterior restoration that saw the body taken back to bare metal and refinished in its original shade while all the chrome and aluminium components were similarly restored to show-level standard. Inside, this stunning Aston remains all-original while mechanically everything is said to be perfectly sorted.
