One to Buy: ex-Daniel Ricciardo 2023 Aston Martin Valkyrie

Although prior years had seen some spectacular attempts to bring F1 performance to the street, arguably nothing has come closer to achieving that feat than Aston Martin’s radical Valkyrie.

Produced in a limited run of 150 units between 2021 and 2024, the Valkyrie was a collaboration between Aston Martin and its F1 partner of the time, Red Bull Racing. Overseeing the project was Red Bull Racing’s Adrian Newey who is commonly regarded as the greatest F1 designer of his generation.

In typical F1 fashion, the Valkyrie was an effort uncompromised by cost. Accordingly, it featured an all-carbonfibre monocoque, Cosworth-developed 6.5-litre V12 with Kinetic Energy Recovery System, sophisticated torsion bar suspension developed by Multimatic and a braking system supplied by Alcan and Surface Transforms. Externally, the bodywork incorporated state-of-art aero and was able to generate an unprecedented level of ground effect for a street car.

One of the 150 customers to get their hands on a Valkyrie was Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo who took delivery of the highly optioned chassis 089 which will be going under the hammer at Broad Arrow Auctions’ Zoute sale in Belgium on October 10th.

Ricciardo, who scored seven of his eight Formula 1 victories for Red Bull Racing, took delivery of chassis 089 through Aston Martin Monaco in 2023. He opted for a handsome shade of iridescent pale blue known as Dichroic Dawn which which was combined with an extensive mix of exposed gloss and satin carbonfibre. Up front was an ultrafine stainless steel nose badge with the full Inconel exhaust system out back. Another option was a set of ultra-lightweight Magnesium Performance Wheels in Matt Black with satin-painted centres in contrasting Dichroic Dawn.

Inside, Ricciardo went for Pure Black Debossed Alcantara upholstery with contrast Silver stitching, exposed satin carbonfibre hardware, silver-anodized steering-wheel toggle switches and a Pure Black steering-wheel rim. In total, options costing over £141,000 were specified!

Chassis 089 is heading to auction with just 160km on the odometer fresh from a comprehensive 24 month service.
