One to Buy: Mexico Blue 1989 Porsche 911 3.2 Speedster

Having assessed a couple of internal Speedster prototypes during 1986 and then given the green light for a subsequent prototype to be displayed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1987, Porsche could not have hoped to launch the production version into a more receptive market twelve months later.

By the autumn of 1988, the exotic and collector car market had shifted to overdrive as speculators piled in hoping to make a substantial profit on what was considered the latest high yielding asset class.

With the 911 Speedster having revived one of Porsche’s most revered monikers after an absence of nearly three decades, orders for what became the final iteration of the G body 911 flew in at an astonishing rate.

Despite a brief nine month production run between January and September of 1989, Porsche built a little over 2000 Speedsters, but few were ordered anything like chassis WP0ZZZ91ZKS152243 as currently on offer at the Early 911S showroom in Wuppertal.

Configured in the rarely seen but spectacular combination of Mexico Blue over a Black interior, ‘152243’ was further optioned with a limited-slip differential, short shift gear lever, rear luggage deck, Sports seats and Turbo bodywork.

Having been converted to 964 look by Strosek during the early 1990s, the car has more recently been completely restored by Early 911S back to its original 1989 specification.

With just 500km showing since the completion of this work, chassis ‘152243’ must rank as one of the finest 911 Speedsters in existence.
