One to Buy: 57 miles from new 1989 Porsche 911 3.2 Speedster

Following the Black Monday stock market crash in October 1987, speculators and investors piled into alternative asset classes, one of which was high end collector cars.

As a consequence, particularly sought after models from the likes of Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin and Lamborghini began selling at significantly above retail price in the secondary market and, in some cases, multiples of the original.

The party lasted until mid 1990 when most major economies slipped into a rapid decline and the ensuing funk lasted for much of that decade.

A legacy of the mad late 1980s collector car boom was the sizeable number of vehicles preserved in as-new condition with delivery mileage, machinery often originally purchased with investment potential in mind.

Today, few such cars exist in such timewarp condition, but currently on sale at the Road Scholars showroom in Durham, North Carolina, is just such a 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster.

Showing a mere 57 miles from new, chassis WP0EB0913KS179305 was supplied via the Max Dial Porsche agency in Inglewood, California. Configured in the handsome colour scheme of Silver Metallic with Marine Blue upholstery, chassis ‘179305’ was also specified with the short shift gear lever, air-conditioning and the Turbo body common to all US-bound examples.
