One to Buy: 21,000km from new 1982 Porsche 911 3.3 Turbo Sonderwunsch Flachbau Series 1 (930)
/ Ben Tyer
After Porsche produced the all-conquering 911 Turbo-based 935 racing car with its air-piercing flat nose front end, customers inevitably began asking for a street car with the same look.
However, Porsche initially refused these requests which led to Europe’s myriad high end tuners doing brisk business converting 911 s and 930s to the Flachbau look.
With the likes of BB, Kremer and DP raking in the cash from wealthy clients, Porsche eventually caved in and during late 1980 the new Sonderwunsch department was established at the Zuffenhausen repair and restoration department (Werk 1).
Over the next couple of years nearly five dozen 911 Turbos were converted with Porsche’s first generation Flachbau design which featured flush steel front fenders and a new fibreglass front bumper assembly that housed four rectangular head / fog lights, custom indicators and an elaborately contoured chin spoiler with a pair of slender cooling ducts.
One of the 58 911 Turbos built to Series 1 Flachbau trim at Porsche’s Exclusiv department during this period was chassis WPOZZZ93ZDS000295 which is currently on offer at the L’Art de l’Automobile showroom in Paris.
Completed in November 1982 and sold to a VIP customer in Zurich, chassis ‘000295’ was configured in the period colour scheme of Grand Prix White with beige leather upholstery and black carpet. An electric sunroof was also specified.
Today the car has covered just 21,000km and is offered in superb original condition having recently undergone a major service.
