One to Buy: 18,000km Slate Grey 1989 Porsche 911 3.3 Turbo Flachbau (930)

When the Martini-backed 935 emerged in 1976 with its iconic Flachbau front end as opposed to the 911’s traditional headlight configuration, it wasn’t long before customers started to request a similar front end configuration for their road cars.

Initially, aftermarket tuners were left to satisfy demand, but from late 1980, Porsche got in on the act when the firm’s Sonderwunsch department began to churn out a small number of wickedly expensive Flat Nose 911 Turbos for wealthy VIPs.

During 1983, a second generation Flachbau design arrived with headlights concealed within the fenders as opposed to exposed on the front apron. This more refined configuration became the de facto Flachbau set up and, from late 1986 (for the 1987 model year), Porsche began to offer the Flat Nose treatment as an officially recognised option.

Despite an enormous price tag, the Flachbau proved surprisingly popular in the USA and UK, but far less so in Europe, which makes finding a Rest of World specification left-hand drive example from the 1987 through 1989 model years quite a tough proposition.

However, one of these rare beasts is currently on offer at the Early 911S showroom in Wuppertal, Germany.

A 1989 model year example with the ultra desirable five-speed Getrag G50 gearbox, chassis WP0ZZZ93ZKS000246 was configured in Slate Grey Metallic with Black upholstery. In addition to the Flachbau front end conversion with vented rear fenders, ‘000246’ was further optioned with the rarely seen Recaro Ideal C seats, the 330bhp ‘Turbo S’ engine upgrade complete with four outlet exhaust, a coloured Porsche crest for the steering wheel, a limited-slip differential and electric sunroof.

Having covered a little over 18,000km from new, chassis ‘0002460 is presented in superb original condition and comes with a fully documented service hsitory.
