One to Buy: 11,000 mile 2006 Ford GT Heritage Blue Livery
/ Ben Tyer
Ford eventually got around to replacing arguably the most iconic model in its history when deliveries of a GT for the modern era started in August 2004 for the 2005 model year.
The basis for this retro-styled machine was an aluminium spaceframe chassis with forged aluminium double wishbone suspension and Brembo brakes at each corner. In the engine bay was a supercharged 550bhp Roush-modified 90° V8 hooked up to a six-speed manual gearbox developed by Ricardo.
Customers could initially choose from six exterior colours (with or without racing stripes), however, for the 2006 model year a new Heritage Blue Livery option was introduced inspired by the Gulf-backed GT40s that won the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1968 and ‘69 as well as the 1968 World Sportscar Championship.
Only 343 of the 4038 GTs eventually produced were configured with the Heritage Blue Livery, one of which is currently on offer at the Duncan Hamilton ROFGO showroom in Micheldever, Hampshire.
This Swiis-registered example was also configured with the desirable forged BBS wheel option, Gunmetal Grey brake calipers and the McIntosh audio system that featured a four-channel amplifier, an 8-inch subwoofer and a tweeter in each door.
Having covered just 11,000 miles from new, the car is offered in superb condition throughout and represents a particularly fine example of the most desirable incarnation of Ford’s first 21st century GT.
