One to Buy: Ice Green Met. non sunroof 1975 Porsche 911 3.0 Carrera
For the 1976 model year (production of which got underway in August 1975), Porsche introduced a new normally aspirated flagship 911 dubbed the 3.0 Carrera.
Unlike other variants in the range (which used 2.7-litre motors), the 3.0 Carrera featured a normally aspirated version of the 911 Turbo engine which most notably offered a substantial torque gain over the outgoing 911 2.7 Carrera.
Unfortunately though, as a consequence of being outlawed from sale in the USA (on emissions grounds) and poor trading conditions (a legacy of the Oil Crisis), Porsche only managed to sell 3691 examples of the Carrera 3.0 during its two-year production run.
Of these, 2566 were built in Coupe trim (1093 for the 1976 model year and 1473 for the 1977 model year). The remaining 1125 were configured as Targas (479 for the 1976 model year and 646 for the 1977 model year).
As a consequence of this rarity and the fact it was the ultimate non-turbocharged 911 of the mid 1970s, the 3.0 Carrera is today regarded as one of the most collectable G Body Porsches.
To find a 3.0 Carrera not originally configured in the popular 1970s shades of gold, brown, white, black or red is quite unusual and just such a car is currently on offer at the Route da Sogno showroom in Reggio Emilia.
This particular example from 1975 left the Porsche factory in the handsome shade of Ice Green Metallic with Black upholstery. It was also specified with the desirable five-speed manual gearbox and importantly, no sunroof (which saved weight, increased rigidity and lessened the chance of corrosion).
Today, this superb example of the ultimate mid 1970s 911 is presented in excellent restored condition with a little over 97,000km on the odometer.
