One to Buy: 1 of 1 Blu Paris 1998 Lamborghini Diablo SV (99 MY)

At the Paris Motor Show in October 1998, Lamborghini unveiled its new 1999 model year Diablos which featured arguably the most significant updates yet seen.
Offered in SV and VT trim, these latest iterations of the Diablo theme had been the result of a two-year development programme that focussed on improved safety, ergonomics and build quality. Most notably, they featured new interiors, updated brake software, a stiffer structure and fixed glass covered headlights instead of the original retractable units.
The 1999 model year offerings arrived three months after Automobili Lamborghini had been acquired by Germany’s Volkswagen Audi Group in a $110m deal with Megatech, a Bermuda-registered holding company for Malaysian investment group, Mycom Setdco, and Indonesian group, V Power Corporation, which had purchased Lamborghini for $40m from a cash-strapped Chrysler back in 1994.

Unlike the heavier four-wheel drive VT, the Diablo SV was a lighter, rear drive variant that shed 46kg in the transition to 1999 trim. Weighing in at 1530kg, it bpasted a top speed of 209mph and 0-62mph time of 3.8 seconds.
Currently on offer at the Ruote da Sogno showroom in Reggio Emilia is a very early example of the 1999 model year SV and the only one painted Blu Paris. Built on chassis XLA12055, it was optioned with matching Blu leather upholstery, a rear spoiler and yellow SV decals.
Interestingly, XLA12055 is known to have starred in a series of Lamborghini publicity shots for the new model. It has covered a little over 70,000km and represents a rare opportunity to purchase a particularly significant example of the Diablo SV theme.
