History of chassis 1120026

Chassis 1120026 was the first right-hand drive Countach LP400 built.

It was ordered with a Rosso / Senape colour scheme and dispatched from the factory on 14th October 1974. The car was delivered to UK Lamborghini agent, Berlinetta Italia, just in time to go on display at the London Motor Show (held from October 17th to 27th).

Who chassis 1120026 was sold to after the show is currently unknown. It was not road registered until May 1975 after serving time as the UK demonstrator.

In the early 1980s, the second UK owner exported the Countach to Florida and a rear wing was installed. The car seems to have spent most of its time in America on the UK registration HPP 5.

1120026 returned to the UK in 1987 and was issued registration number JYP 43N. At this point, the original Senape interior was switched to white leather and the rear wing was removed.

The car became a frequent sight at Portman Lamborghini and in the press. It featured on the cover of Supercar Classics (March 1988), Lamborghini Countach The Complete Story by Peter Dron (1990), Lamborghini Countach by Chris Bennett (1993) and twice on the cover of Classic Cars magazine (August 1997 and September 1999).

In later years, chassis 1120026 was repainted yellow and the interior was returned to Senape. When sold like this by RM Sotheby’s in October 2010, it was listed as a five owner car.
